Rolex Double Red Sea-Dweller (Ref. 1665)

       The Rolex Sea-Dweller was the product of one of Rolex's most successful partnerships. COMEX, a French firm specializing in deep-water diving helped Rolex develop the iconic Submariner, and as technology advanced and depths increased, a new deep-water divers watch was needed. Rolex developed the Sea-Dweller in response to these requirements, boasting a 610 meter water resistance, Helium escape valve, and a bulletproof movement. The first few revisions featured 2 lines of red printing, and are highly valued by collectors for their technological innovation, rarity, and utilitarian styling. 
       The example for sale here is a Mark III version, produced in the early 1970’s. In excellent condition, the case and bracelet show light wear, and the caseback has been engraved with the owner's name. The original bezel is faded to a grey-blue tone and has the desirable “fat font”. The superdome crystal has a few minor scratches and scuffs, but is clear and in great condition. The dial is in near-perfect condition, with creamy lume and lightly oxidized hands. The movement is in outstanding condition and has been well maintained over it’s near 50 year life. The watch keeps time within COSC standards, and shows almost no wear inside. No box or papers are included.
